After a lot of contemplation, I think I am going to pass on the single seat 570 version and go with a max L of some variety.
There are some great deals on the 2015 450 max right now...as low as $6466 for the DPS version.
Dirt trax reviewed the 450 max DPS and says it is a blast due to its power to weight ratio and quick low end torque of the single vs the twin. I also wonder if it does not run cooler than the 570 twin.
The 2015 still has the 5 year warranty...the 2016s have the 6 month.
Here is how it breaks down:
6466 2015 450 DPS max
6799 2016 450 DPS max
Did they do many updates on the 16s or should I pay less for a much longer warranty?
Or I can move up to a 570 for $7488...seems like the 2015 450 with 5 year warranty is the best deal...if there were not a lot of problems with year 1 that had to be fixed in the next model year. I guess 2016 was the first year for the 570, so maybe they are both "first year" bikes in reality.
If anyone has any thoughts, or comments on the max L version of any kind, please feel free to respond. Thanks!

I have a 2016 Outlander L 450 Max DPS.
Mine came with the 5 year warranty when I got it last Nov.
No changes I know between 2015 & 2016 other than colour options.
I like mine, so far no problems.
I would have taken a 2015 in grey (would have matched my Jeep) but they couldn't find me one in this area.

the 450 is probably a great machine but i see alot people clutching and doing things to get more out of them. you can never have too much power. i have a 570 and it gets up and goes pretty good and i have owned a brute force 750 so i kinda know what having some balls is...lol

That's funny as there is no clutch kits available for the 450 that I'm aware of.
As for needing more power the 450 has plenty for my uses.
If I wanted more power I would have started with a far larger engine.
The Max platform is not a racing bike.
More than enough power for trail riding & going out ice fishing.
It all depends on intended uses as not all of us are power junkies.

I like my 570. I don't have the max but my wife fits comfortably on the seat. The small fractio. She rides with it works well. And the v twin sounds badass

I picked up a 2010 800xt Max last fall.
Now, I know what you are looking at is very different. But....the max is so much better.
Granted my days of riding a renegade like I stole it are over, I'm much more reserved.
The increased stability Ina hill climb is very noticeable. I find I'm able to do quite a bit more.
And yes, the 2 up capability from the factory is great. When I was married, it was just great to have something that had the whole setup. Now that I'm apparently single, it is great for my son. I love riding. The ability to take him along is very valuable to me.
So, the max part has worked very well for me.
Life feels like that final exam I didn't study for.

PFD...I know exactly what you are talking about....regarding life.
Went and rode a 450 L and a 570 L max and today for some time and 2 things were were abundantly clear:
1. Max all the way for ride quality.
2. 570 all the way for $400 more list price.
The left side of the 570 was pretty warm after only 15 minutes and it was cool outside. The power difference is a no contest given the 29 extra lbs of the max, the possibility of a second rider and the fact we will always be riding at 4500-7000 ft.
Dealer said the $1000 promotion that started today meant his sale price was $7500 (seems a bit steep) with ads all over the net for $6999 without the $1000 off.. but was willing to sell me an extended warranty for 60 months for $565 which seemed really fair.
He also mentioned not to run DPS in max settings for long periods of time on any outlander, as they have a tendency to get hot and fail. Better to run in med and then max for rock climbing. So my only concern about the machine is will it hold up?
Thanks for the feedback...keep it coming.

Sounds like this DPS heat thing is a real issue. Have been searching other threads and talking with other professionals in the industry.
BTW...what kind of range are you getting on a single tank of fuel in the L series machines?

Although I've never ran it for a full tank based on fuel added + distance covered (open trail) + tank size my guess for my 450 would be in the 150 mile range.

If you put a fan mod on to keep the fan running all the time, will that allow you to run DPS at med or max all the time? Will it keep the heat off the left leg?
